I have used the optima 6 volt in my cars for the last 20 years. So far so good. I am removing the stock VR on the 300K and using an adjustable digital unit. I can make sure that it will not see an over charge. Also, since I added the relay for the stock VR it has been running between 13.4 and 14 volts. That little $10 USB charging port that plugs into the cigar lighter with a volt meter in it is great for these cars to keep track of the voltage. In my case the dash voltage is 0.1 lower than at the battery terminals, so it is a good check in how the system is doing. I would rather eat a $280 battery that deal with an acid spill. I JUST redid the battery tray and the like only to have it spill out when the thing over charged the lead acid. Now I have to unbolt it and do it all over again! James From: Dan Plotkin <dplotkin@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> The bigger battery won’t fit the hold down. Optima makes a good battery that will not tolerate overcharging which nearly all available regulators today do. I would go to Costco for a discounted Interstate flooded battery or Walmart.
My opinion. Others may vary. However I have 9 cars for a long time and have learned the hard way.

I am going to pick up an Optima Battery. The stock unit a 27-MB-70 was 12"L x 6.75"W x 8"H. Optima has two batteries:
Anyone have any experience with either battery both in terms of fit or function? James --
