RE: {Chrysler 300} Fwd: [Chrysler300] Emailing: 300 C Alignment Specs

I should add that a few years ago I also swapped to my old bias ply tires during some testing I was doing. I then took the car up to a GPS speed of 114 mph for a couple of miles. Again, the alignment felt accurate and controlled with no wandering or pulling to either side.

So my conclusion is that these specs should work out well on any Letter Car – whether on radials or bias tires.

Attached are the alignment specs used on my 300C. These settings have resulted in excellent driving characteristics at all speeds and through any maneuvering.

I am driving on Diamond Back radials.

Hello Henry -

I found this thread on alignment dating back ten years ago.  The messages below were in response to an inquiry about specs for RADIAL tires, not the bias-ply types originally on the '57 cars, but there is no mention of any difference in specs.  I'm no expert in alignment for these old cars, but I recall that we (the restoration shop) just got it into visual "looks OK from here" configuration and had the car flat-bedded to the best alignment shop in town.   I asked about the unsymmetrical specs for left and right sides; the shop foreman 'splained it to me and I nodded my head, but didn't really understand!  They worked on it for a couple hours (twice what  would be normal for a modern car) and said they could eventually get the camber and toe-in numbers, but had trouble getting to the caster spec; online advice at the time was to get camber and toe right and just crank in as much caster as you could.   I know I have it somewhere, but can't quickly find the final specs attained by my alignment shop - the car tracks pretty much OK, although it acts different on left or right side of a crowned road, and "pulls" to right a little as front end dives (compresses) on braking (could be combination of unequal braking and suspension geometry changing with that "dive").  I suspect that old cars were pretty squirrely back then; our fathers and grandfathers just didn't know the difference and thought it was normal!

I'd put the specs here but we cannot attach.

Just remember that the caster spec is to be pushed to an extreme. Can't
remember the details, but sure remember than many years ago when our C was
running and I drove it, it always started to run off the road if I so much
as looked to the right or left. It had no road sense. But this was all
covered online probably at least 15 years agol.

Larry,

For what it's worth, attached are the final specs of what I ended up with
on
my C. I don't remember how close they are to the book, but it does drive
out extremely well.
