Sounds like a mess!

The 1" hole is for access to an attachment bolt. Never to be seen, and making motor removal easy.

For motor repair or replacement, it is also much safer than removing the entire window lift assy.

If removing the assy, prop up the glass or remove it (prefered), and the assy will come out without cutting anything.

IMPORTANT! The scissors lift is under severe spring tension, so, before removing the motor. drill a hole through one leg of the scissors

and the frame. put a bolt through this hole and secure it. This prevents the lift assy from exploding when you take the motor off.

That coil spring is there to counterbalance the weight of the window and the motor bolted in place, preventing it from unloading.

Take it from an OLD guy, it is very violent, able to cut off fingers, smash skulls and break stuff on the bench when released.

So BOLT it, vice grips can unlock.

That would be great. It looks like they cut one of the supports, the one that comes down in front and to the right of the motor. They also drilled a 1 inch hole in the web to get to a bolt on the regulator-gear mechanism. The cover of the gear box has long bolts sticking out of it and all kinds of general mess.

I am going to have to pull the entire things apart and rebuild-replace a lot of it. I am hoping that the passenger side is not butchered as well.

Hi All, I took the door panel off for the first time on the 300K. It is a good news bad news sort of thing.

 

The steel inside the door and down on the bottom of it looks like it left the factory last month. Stellar. The door panel has some warping on the bottom, but I think I can wet it and press it back to flat.

 

The window regulator is another story.

 

Someone with little knowledge got in there and really screwed it up. The one thing I know for sure is the gear is bad. I did not see it on the club website. Is the person who was making the gears in the tech section sill making or have them?

 

Also, if anyone has a door panel off on a ’63 or ’64 could I trouble you for a photo? I think someone cut and messed with the brackets that hold the motor and regulator to the webbing. I photo would help me to figure out what it should look like.
