Re: {Chrysler 300} Some people think I am being too harsh...but..

I’ve had a variety of SMS experiences: the most recent mirrors - to an extent- yours.

It took a long time to receive the vinyl and cloth they said they had for my 61 Polara.

They responded quickly and professionally to say that they had both - but getting them was like pulling teeth. I began to think I’d never get the cloth, frankly - when out of the blue it arrived! I’m trying to think but (just guessing) the whole thing took close to a year

Just a helpful tip when dealing with SMS that I learned the hard way.  I waited over 6 years to get my door panel reproductions and repeated calls did nothing but give me more frustration.  Their estimates for likely results to arrive were just made up fiction.  I repeatedly asked to talk with the owner but that was never allowed.  I had been concerned if I complained too much that I would get crappy results but I also noted in many comments about them, they never compromise in quality so that emboldened me to act much more aggressively.

Then I decided to try one last time to get results so I decided to post an on-line Better Business Bureau complaint.  I finished the complaint before noon that same day and before the end of the day, I had a call from the owner and he wanted to work something out with me that I would accept to make the complaint go away and I told him they had to be in my possession within 3 months or the complaint would stay.  When he called me then I had his cell number and could therefore call him as needed.  He met my deadline within the 3 months and clearly wanted the complaint to be withdrawn.

Good luck and I sincerely hope you finally get the results you deserve.

You must be talking about SMS in Oregon.

They have a long standing reputation of taking forever to fill their orders. It's SOP to give a delivery date and then not hit it by months or even years.

That said, they do great work and have the correct materials. I went through trying to find a headliner for my '65 Barracuda. Most of the other vendors sell Acme headliners, but the material didn't match. I went with SMS knowing that any promised time frame would probably be doubled and they were pretty close to that.

Again, great work, correct material, just poor time management.

Be patient.

When I inquired about 2/14/2024 of why my headliner order of about December the 18th, and promised as a three-week after the 1st   of the year not arrived nor had anyone called me to tell me it will be delayed, I got an email on February the 16th that stated, My sewer say’s the headliner will be done today.”

So, an hour or so ago I get a voicemail asking me if my headliner has the external bows or the internal bows are they are different headliners. Today is the 23rd. Therefore, nobody was working on this headliner on the 16th. Smoke.

Apologists keep suggesting that we should kiss the ring of the suppliers. Horse Dung.

Suppliers need to stop lying about deliver times. Then a potential customer can choose to do business with them or not based on facts and not fiction.

I would like our club to stand for full disclosure by suppliers. It is not a bad thing to tell people that it is going to take 3 months, 6 months or a year for a part to show up. It is a horrible thing to miss represent the timelines, however.

James.
