Yes I stayed with R12 on my 1964 300, worked fine but will never come close to A/C 2024 cars.

No supplier and no part number but some advice. Visit your local hose and coupling fabricator. I live in a tertiary market and we have at least three. Though they deal primarily with hydraulic and pneumatic hose, if it’s a hose you need they can get it and put ends on them. Then of course is Vintage Air and the like. They build aftermarket AC systems and make hoses too. You might try that.

 

As to refrigerant, though you proclaimed rather than asked, you are nevertheless asking for what follows; I’ve been dealing with antique automotive refrigeration for 25 years as most of my relics have factory air and I demand that it works. I have read and listened for years experts, would-be experts, want-to-be experts and self-anointed experts announce that 134A does not work well in R12 systems. Some say because of steel condensers. Others say for other reasons. All of it is BS. All of it!

 

I run 134A in a bone stock 68 New Yorker whose system is substantially similar to a stock 64 system. I charged it one time, 12 years ago and have never topped it off. The new dryer I used didn’t have a sight glass but the last time I had gauges on it the system pressures were fine. It discharges 40 F air all summer long. I have a 1962 Bonneville Vista with its bone stock A6/STV Harrison system. Same thing. Charged it one time with 134A and it cools to 38F from the vents in 90 degree ambient. Huge system, holds almost 4 pounds. My 300F is on the R12 it came with…same thing will eventually happen.

 

There is no technical reason to stay with a very expensive R12 and with very few R12 recovery machines left in shops it makes no sense to me to stay with it unless you are already on R12 with a leak free system. I’ve got a 63 Impala & 63 Galaxie in that camp, R12 filled and topped off every so often but when those systems need to be sucked down R134A is going in.

 

James, I know you are steadfast in the direction you go, but re-think the R12 thing if you are starting with an empty system.

Anyone have a supplier and part number for new A/C hoses for a 1964 Chrysler single 4 BBL?

 

The ends of the hoses have steel bends on the factory units. I doubt I will find anything like that. I hate to try and re-use 60 year rubber with the cost of R-12.

 

{Yes, I am not converting, I have a place that can do R-12}
