No luck at all John, I ended up cutting both the upper and lower ball joint studs free so I could focus on the taper in the spindle. I tried one of the lever style tools. No luck.
I spent two hours trying to configure my drill press to get it into it. I managed to and I drilled out he bottom stud to 95% although it is a little off set from the centerline. Luck for me the small end is
very close to center. I hit it again and it still will not come out. Somehow over time these spindles have “welded” the ball joint tapers to the forging. Some form of electrolysis perhaps? In any event, I am at a loss. Both of these on the passenger side are sold as a rock. I have not even pulled the driver’s side yet. I may have to take to a good machine shop and have them get them out. Do you, are anyone else happen to know what the tapper angle is on these? They may have to all be drilled and then tapper reamed to get
all the material out. What a PITA? James From: John Grady <jkg@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
start cold apply a lot of heat quickly to od while part is clamped in vise , keep pressure on it with pickle , sharp rap with heavy hammer it should pop . idea is heat outside to expand without heating inside as best you can , means be fast . heating both just expands both . similar to rear axle taper issue . good luck ! jg Sent from my iPhone
