RE: {Chrysler 300} Rear brake proportioning valve

Thanks Danny,

I happen to have a new late 1960's drum-drum in the box. I guess I could just use that or go get a 1970 disc-drum unit.

I was looking around and some of the disc-drum units had a larger bore then than stock 1964 unit. I think it best to keep it close to the stock 1.0 inch if I can.

If it’s a master intended to be used with drums it will have residuals in both ports. If for disk/drums it will have a residual in the rear wheel port. You must remove the residual from any port you will connect to disk brakes and retain the one used with drums. The residual valves are easy to remove.
On my 61 Plymouth disk/drum setup I used the flattop Mopar dual circuit drum/drum master with front residual removed. On the 300 F I used a 1970 Imperial disk/drum master to clear the right carb and with its body cut down to clear the booster.

I am in the middle of prepping an AAJ kit for the 300K. I wonder if the late 1960's Master Cylinder that I will use, a dual, has a residual valve for the rear circuit or not? I have not purchased it yet.

I will have to look into that.

I read somewhere more than once that Chrysler didn't use proportioning devices on its disk brake equipped fuselage cars because the engineers thought the weight and the wheelbase made it unnecessary. I have a disk brake conversion on my F, and while I used a residual valve I did not use a proportioning valve. I can lock the rears up first, so I should probably re-think that.
