Hello Gary -
Consistent consensus is to use Type F fluid in the 1957 Torqueflite transmission. Your mechanic must have misunderstood: that fluid is easily available at virtually every AutoZone, O'Reily's and Walmart. (The original specification was for "Type A", which is indeed no longer available). Don Verity, the 300 Club Torqueflite guru, recommended Type F when he rebuilt my 300C transmission and it seems to work fine for the last 9 years.

--To all in letter car land.--
Mechanic is ready to fill up the second rebuild torqueflight in the '57 C and need to give him the answer.
I've always thought type F, but told not available.
Said he thought dextron type 3 (?) was closest to F.
Will appreciate all suggestions.
Thanks for all you help in the past and going forward.
