Re: {Chrysler 300} Push rod

possible cause is rust on valve stem prevents it returning or too tight in guide if just worked on . valve hangs open , lifter drops , pushrod falls out .
? squirt thinnest mobil one  on stem , or open cover  ?may  still be hung but i doubt it , see if you have full lift compared to other valves . If significantly less indicates wiped cam
lobe … measure while cranking , visual compare pull coil wire out of cap and ground it with clip lead to avoid operating coil
open circuit ( that can hurt it badly)

I doubt hydraulic lifter can collapse enough to let push rod out , but others may know more on that . If collapsed lifter , it makes a big noise too , loud clicking but working
hope this helps

Loren, I am not up to date with your engine or how it was built.  What I read from your description makes my alarm bells ring.  You don't drop a push rod just like that for no reason.  Recommends an in-depth troubleshooting.  There are many variables and several I think are worth a serious check.   Lifter failure, you are wiping out a cam lobe or just a defective hydraulic lifter...rocker way out of sdjustment,,,hmmm the problem can grow into a machine breakdown..
Check here out!

Ämne: {Chrysler 300} Push rod

I've owned my 61 300G since 1977 and the speedo reads 55,000 miles. While pulling into the garage at near idle a push rod popped out and began making a horrible noise. I've never had this happen before in all the years I have driven the car. My friend with a 70 Super Bee had the same thing happen to his car recently. His push rod was not bent and he put it back in and it seems to be running fine but he has not driven it much since.
I have had recent body work done and was driving it locally with a 4 barrel to be sure I had any problems fixed before installing rams. Will new valve lifters ensure this does not happen after the rams are installed?
Thanks for your expert help,
Loren Nelson in N Georgia
