Hi,

Many years ago many “Letter Cars” were made up and sold as the real thing. This left new owners with quite a mess. The Officers of the Club could not get involved with private deals or auctions because at least one perpetrator threatened to sue the Club. 

However, the Club did cooperate with the FBI who eventually shut down the letter Car cloning shop. 

Having a registry of known survivors is an invaluable reference. This is a fiduciary function of a Club that is in business of preserving (Identifying) and restoring “Letter Cars”. 

Since the Club website is public, I guess the information is public too as long as it is accurately reported. 

IMHO, auction houses currently do a good job screening Letter Cars to be sure they are the “Real Deal”. 

This was not the case years ago.

To me it is misleading as there is no way to know how many cars are sitting in barns or not registered with the club.

Maybe the wording on that page can be cleaned up to make it clear that those are cars known to the club.

really bother me. They are invoking the name of our club to pump up the car. As far as I know, our club isn’t in the business of estimating how many cars are left. If I’m wrong and this came from an officer or model year coordinator, then please let us know.
