this is what the OEM stuff was like , U unfolded , removed from another old one . That stitched on felt strip down the back is felt for rubbing . We replaced that with thin Teflon industrial tape.tight on the metal bottom . This will gain about 3/32 to 1/8” — i think room to adjust it Note how thin the side strips are — very small both in width and height compared to a fully lined U channel with cat whisker type design , we guess only 1/16” thick (!!) And this is fairly flat nap felt , not pile type top . The hole is where a rivet was . we think glued in to metal U then factory riveted through to outer metal U , no space at all .
