should never be a capacitor on F pin, in EE sense

you sure? belongs an A usually mounted at gen for radio noise suppression ( whine with rpm type noise of sparks at brushes )

Any .25 to .5 uf works , find anything that mounts ok , put on A

unless can show factory picture ,?? but I think wrong — some kind of prior mistake , will possibly burn VR points
