Re: {Chrysler 300} red ram paint

John,

Be aware that all our 300 Club's listserver emails dating back 15+ years are available through the link, below, ... archive/search ...  Just enter a brief few word search topic, and the relevant archived emails will be listed, for your review.

This long ongoing discussion has evolved around primarily two conclusions - Cummins Diesel Engine Red and Buick Engine Red. Following is a recent [July 2022] archived email exchange. My guess is that neither of these will exactly match the weathered red paint on your rams. I think the best suggestion is removing your rams, having them beadblasted, priming them with light gray epoxy primer and then spraying them with the one of these red paints that you select. You'll need 2 cans of spray paint to fully finish these.

There's also a school of self-mixing your red paint of choice, and adding a flattening agent to somewhat tone down the gloss finish of these paints. I've attached a photo of my F engine, with the Cummins spray can red-painted epoxy-primered paint - a couple years ago.

Here's our archived email discussion -

Re: {Chrysler 300} 300F Wheelcover restoration

Here's the latest update on my wheelcover refresh project. I got the Cummins Apex Red paint and it was just too bright compared to my intakes and the original paint under the gears. I got a can of Buick Red yesterday and it's a much better match. Hard to photograph reds with digital cameras but see the attachments.

Hey Nick;

From our page http://www.chrysler300club.com/rcmstuff/colors.html

From Gil Gunningham regarding the 300F wheel cover:
The Chrysler drawing for the 300F wheel cover (PN 2122531) states "same as #1856400 Assy - wheel cover, except Flag Red Paint C-7415, in place of semi-gloss black, C-1412-E." Since the black for the 300E cover was stated as semi-gloss, and there was no differing specification for the red, I would conclude the red is also a semi-gloss. I do not have specifics on the actual Chrysler Color number with regard to gloss.
Now, what is Flag Red? It is also the color of the red specified in all the red white and blue 300 plastic medallions. Therefore, if one has a good NOS medallion, that is the Flag Red color. It is easier to match if the medallion is smooth in the red area like those on the D, G, H, and J wheel covers.
I do, however, have an official Chrysler color master for the ram manifold red, C-7107-A. When an original medallion is held on the surface of that master, the two colors are almost a perfect match! For some time the Club has suggested using Cummins Engine Red (Apex Red) as a substitute for the ram paint, although it seems just a wee bit darker. Unless you want to try and match the medallion red, the Apex red would probably be a decent substitute for the Flag Red.
As for the "gear", I am sure they are anodized. Also, very nice reproductions are available through the Club Store.
300ly, Gil Cunningham

Someone asked about the best match for the red orange color used for the hubcaps on a 300G.
Noel replied: "We’ve been using Cummins Diesel engine red. Pick up a spray can at your local Cummins shop."
Val replied: "I recall using Seymour Buick Red in a spray can. Perfect match."
Bob replied: "Agree with Noel. Cummins Apex Red paint p/n 3163075, available through Cummins parts outlets. Good for intake rams and wheel cover centers 300G/F."

I have no experience with Buick red but I like the results from Apex red -- maybe just me.
No primer.

I've been checking around the club site, but can't for the life of me find the recommended red paint for rams.  I have mine off and would like to touch them up, but during my move south I didn't bring paint cans in the cars or moving pods, so I no longer have the paint I used on them the last time I had them off over a decade ago.
Sorry for not remembering.  I have vague recollections of a 'Ford Red' and also a diesel red, but nothing I can use to go to an automotive paint store to make sure I get what will match what is already on the car.
Thanks,
