Re: {Chrysler 300} distributor caps/ rotors , two heights

I Found this out the hard way. I sold a distributor to a person in our club, just to have it returned. I was told that it would start but not remain running. I tested said distributor on my distributor machine and statically fired coil and plugs for more than enough time. No problem found. It returned, This time with cap, rotor, and wires. Luckily, I spotted the incorrect cap, supplied correct cap and returned to customer. We both learned a lesson from this experience.  RC

Subject: {Chrysler 300} distributor caps/ rotors , two heights

i posted some thing a few years back on this with actual height numbers ,
I was surprised then that  there seem to be two heights of distributor caps and two heights of rotors (to match ?)
It did not occur to me    at the time but metal body seems the same ? asking for “ Chrysler cap or Chrysler rotor may get to be a problem
So 55 is a short cap ,I have NOS one  not sure when it changed ? and later A block ( say 60 318 ) and B bock in 60 at least have tall cap . 392 354 not sure
So not only A/B issue ( I suspect they are the  same—  despite rotation change )   but do tall caps / rotors become a possible upgrade for 55 era distributors  ?
Maybe someone has dug into this . The early tall were often Tan , maybe to avoid errors ? use tall rotor you  have a much better distributor. If it fits
Short one must have jumped across or cross fired at times ,,else why do this , ?? GM 8 was always quite  tall    …
hmm
anyone have any thoughts ?
