Re: {Chrysler 300} 1963 Chrysler 300 Conv starter

Your starter for 63 would be the same regardless of 361, 383, or 413.
Additionally to what John says ensure the current starter hasn’t come loose from the bell housing.  Had this happen once, with similar symptoms.

The contact disc inside the solenoid is probably burned. How they fail after long use  , intermittent contact happens— that contact starts the motor turning. Click is solenoid moving to engage.
Sometimes you can take apart the solenoid back part flip disc  over , rotate contact  screws 180 degrees , all is new again
The 361 had hi miles.. ?

Hello All,

I looked in the parts book and I see one starter (2095150) is used for all Chrysler engines 413, 383, and 361.  So a used starter that was removed from a 361 should fit a 413?

The sound I am getting is a click, no cranking, then retry and the starter engages.  Does a click sound like a starter or starter relay failure?

I initially thought that the negative battery cable was loose, but after I tightened it, the click, no start, then it will start on the 2nd or 3rd try.  Thank you.

Regards,

Mark Lindahl
