Is Marvel Mystery Oil comparable in terms of reasons for use as
Seafoam - i.e. keep the engine free of oil sludge and to also keep the
fuel system clean?

I did have to do a valve job last year due to one burned exhaust valve (#4) at only 80K miles. Maybe I had a lean condition in that cylinder due to a slight vacuum leak over many years? I don't know. I do remember all the family use cars from our 56 Plymouth, 63 Plymouth Fury 318, and 70 Sport Fury LA 318, and how the other men in the neighborhood 'Marveled' at how my dad could get over 100K miles on his cars in an era where that was not to be expected.

I don't know exactly what it does or how it does it, but perhaps that's the "Mystery". Anyway, it seems to do it well, and you just gotta love that name!

Run the highest octane available 91/93. Ethanol free gas here in the Chicago area is only a pipe dream, so only running the corn gas. I do have an electric fuel pump, that Joe Jordan installed, mounted just fore of the gas tank and that helps a lot when the car has been sitting more than three days. Otherwise, as has been said here, it takes extended cranking to fire it up. Since I bought the F 20 years ago it’s had no butterflies in the heat risers so that’s a non-issue - whether I’ve fired up the motor in 10 degree or 90 degree temps to take it out for some exercise. Certainly takes a little longer to warm it up when the temps are sub freezing.

I’ve never seen his G since. His business was building diesel engines of all sizes and said he adds Marvel to every motor.

>> Don’t want to start a big back and forth but I have one of “ those” questions. I have a 63 non letter 383. I have been running a lead additive as I’m not sure if Chrysler was using hardened valve seats in 63. I have heard yes and no. It’s kind of a pain and getting expensive as I do drive the car quite a bit. Some of you gurus: do I need to run the lead additive? It has 93,000 original miles and never been out of the car.
