Was John DeLorean ever known to have drag raced his GTO‘s against any 300 letter car on Woodward Ave back in the day?
If he won, it would only have been because the Chrysler was geared for high-end on the highway, whereas DeLorean’s GTO‘s were geared for getting off the line to the next red traffic light.
He would’ve had to hold that GTO at 3500rpm at least to stay with traffic on the highway back then.
Chrysler kind of let that youth movement to drag racing pass right on by them until they finally came out with the GTX Plymouth in 1966. After that, the game was all theirs with the second gen hemi and all. I don’t remember what the highest rear end ratio offered by Chrysler was back then.
My 300 C often got embarrassed by my buddy’s dad’s four-door Chevy with a 283 power pack and a two speed power glide for the first few hundred feet. After that, I would get by him and be gone in the dust by the quarter mile.
