I use diesel fuel in mine, I do not have the problem with smell or the fire 
hazard, would probably have to go to some sort of water soluble type if smell 
or flammability were a problem, as is after mine gets dirty, I just pour it 
into the tank of my waste oil burner and use to heat the shop
