The local AutoZone had some replacement tie rod boots and ball joint
boots out on the floor. They had them in red and black, I got the black
ones and they work just fine.

outer boot
If you have a friend who works in, or can find a friendly, good
full-stock auto parts or front end supply store in your area, then you
can bring in the old tie-rod boot and rummage through what they have in
stock in their parts bin. Often you will find something that is "good
enough" to use.
If you find a substitute part please post the brand and part number.
