I don't know if they make a Poly kit. But the alternator, from a
1985-1991 Toyota pickup, is smaller and lighter than Chrysler's
Nippondenso units, and it has a built-in voltage regulator. On my 440,
I needed the pulley set-up with the deep, single-groove water pump
pulley.
Sean,
I was actually going to try that alternator at first, mostly because of
the built-in regulator and the single pulley setup. But it has a single
mounting leg, instead of two side-by-side legs like the Chrysler version. I can't
use the bolt holes on the front of the head as part of the mount, or mount
the alternator in front of the head, like the modern SB and BB's. It would end
up pushing the alternator too far forward. So I have to use the stock
mounting bracket (requires two legs on the alt) and adapt to that. And because of
that, it hangs the alternator out to the side a little bit. But I guess
that's a small price to pay.
Thanks for the suggestions though. I appreciate the help.
