They did cut out the ribs. It had just a great big smooth underside with
the two holes. The ribs were cut fairly close to the edges of the hood.
I think the 'home plate' thing your talking about was later, on the hemi
versions you got the plate with holes for the stacks and the seals that
came in the trunk. The hood on those just had a huge hole to fit the
diagonal chrome hemi air cleaner. The plate would go over this hole (with
the seals) if you removed the big air cleaner and ran the stacks.
