Sounds like a problem with the progression ports in the carb.
What that means is there probably some crap in the carby.
Either get the carby rebuilt, or just blow some air into the idle screw
holes and that might dislodge the crap?
Also a good idea is just give it a full tune up, plugs, points cap and maybe
leads
These are only common sense things, it might need more.
