Replacement pulley

I have an electric fan I'd like to install in my '62 Dart, but after
removing the fan there is still not enough room between the pulley and
the new fan assembly.  There is a short shaft that sticks out that
interferes with the new fan assembly.

Is there another pulley I can get?  Or can / should I grind off that shaft?

Also, do I need to consider upgrading to a new alternator?
