That rubber with steel core sounds like a dandy! I would use a thin coat of
hi-temp red RTV silicone sealer--and flaten the bolthole

Subject: 383 oil pan gasket choices
I'll have the steering linkage off my car pretty soon and would like to
take the opportunity to change a leaking oil pan gasket. I see Summit
Racing sells at least two types, one is fiber, one is rubber with a steel
core. Appreciate any advice on choice. Also, does this gasket require a
sealer? Thanks/ Butch /Ferndale, WA
