Ball-Trunion to UJoint

I have a 64 Dodge 330 with the old Ball and (Chain) Trunion, and I want 
to convert to a universal joint driveshaft. Having the 727 transmission 
rebuilt; the shop says the trans output shaft is too short for the 
conversion. How is this issue handled. Any advice would be appreciated!
