Engine & Tranny ID Help

I have a 440 RB casting number 4006630-7, casting date 7-8-77. On the 
lower right side pad just above the oil pan, the pad is blank with no 
number. My question is does a blank pad mean this block was over the 
counter and not assigned to a vehilce with a VIN.

I have a 727 Torqueflite and I'd like to know what year it is, or might 
be. The number stamped into the lower case at the pan is A1942275  
022983.
