65lbfts does sound high. I've never followed the specified torque on
spindle nuts though, always did it by hand, pretty close to the method
you described, working the rotor forwards and reverse to make sure
everything is set correctly. I do recheck it after 500-1000 miles as
well to make sure. I've had customers come in with seized bearings and
destroyed spindles because they tightened the nut too much.
