Gary,
Yes, check the plug wires and the plugs.
Are you running a points or electronic ignition system?
What carb are you using?

Hi all,
Some of you may remember I was replacing the timing chain on a poly 318. The
car died on the way home from a car event last summer. It would turn over
and occasionally "pop" through the carb but not run. Acted like the timing
chain had jumped. Tow truck time.
I finally got the time and weather to "finish" putting all the parts back on
the 318. Sprayed ether in the carb, hit the key and, guess what: no start,
no run – EXACTLY the same as before I put the new timing set on. Ack! I
pulled the coil wire out of the distributor and spun the motor and have
spark. So it appears I have fuel, spark and timing and the same dead boat
anchor vehicle. I did look at the timing mark on the crank's harmonic
balance and the rotor is pointed to #1 spark plug wire when the mark is 0.
Weird.
Any suggestions? Not "call the junkyard to come haul it away" I hope. :-(
Thanks,
Gary H.
