No, not really...
You can buy axles, new axles, trimmed to whatever length you like for
around $220 a pair. Get them cut to the right size for your housing
and you're in business. It's definitely a case of 'measure twice, cut
once' but you can work it out right. They will need bearings, of
course, and the adjuster ring and retainer pressings, but if you've
got a pair of old disused axles around you only need buy the bearings.
