That two-piece unit looks over-engineered. It would work fine as a one piece 
unit if the housing were recessed to accept the thermostat, instead of the 
"adapter". The only thing it brings to the table is an o-ring seal. I 
imagine one could have an o-ring groove milled into the stock thermostat 
housing at the cost of a six-pack.
