I have and have had gel cell batteries, Optima red labels, blue labels.  
They're fine, but on my Plymouth Fury 383, I go with an Interstate battery.  I 
don't think you can really beat the reliability of the Interstate.  They may not 
have 1000 CCA's, but it'll be close.
