and now for something completely different:

My '65 Polara started making a clunk in the front end not too long ago so I
put it up in the air this past week to check it out, well aware that it will
need all its bushings changed out in the near future.
Interstingly enough, I found that one of my sway bar links busted where the
stem meets the box that surrounds the bar. Also, the stem is bent a little.
The other side was fine. I ordered some Moog sway bar bushings for it and
have removed the sway bar for the time being (rides fine, just leans a bit
more in the corners).
Moog has different bushing sets, one which has the bushings for the links
(all 6 of them) and another which has the two where the bracket clamps onto
the strut rod. However the bar to strut rod bushings are different from
those that were on my car. They're exactly the same as my originals except
they lack the rectangular portion that ends up between the sway bar and the
strut rod (they're just cylindrical with the bulge in the middle to keep
them in the bracket). I'm assuming that since they are listed for 65-73,
these bushings fit a later style brack bar bracket. Will they work in my
early production (long inner tie rods and all) '65 Polara?
As for the busted link, I plan to keep an eye out for a replacement, and
failing that weld my original back together. I have not yet decided if the
clunk is gone so I'm waiting until I rebush the rest of the front end to put
the sway bar back on.
