i doubt a .005 oversize ring would cause a failure. a lot of race ring sets
are .005 over fot file fit. having the end gap .003 over won't cause a bunch of
blow-by(assuming your using a hypereutectic piston). do a cylinder leak down
test. check for piston to head clearance. most head gasket failures i've seen
due to head fitting to tight on the locating dowels in the block. make sure
the heads fit on the dowels easily. i usually loosen up the fit a little with
aluminum heads.
