Since you have the stick welder and are on somewhat of a budget go ahead 
and experiment with it. I use .060" rod and turn the welder down to 
about 30 amps to start. I've welded 20 gauge with a fair amount of 
success. Play with it and see what you can do. Since the heat is so low 
the welds may look a little dirtier than wire from not burning the flux 
completely out but you can live with that.
