I believe if you did back into history you will find the hemi was one of the fastest developed motors ever. I believe i am right when I say not one existed in 1963, not even a prototype. They were planning to update the max wedge for Daytona hence the revised manifolds like I have on my car for nasacr but late in the program they realized that the whole ball game had changed and put Tom Hoover in charge of a crash program to develop the hemi. I saw him interviewed about it and he said as late as the week before the 64 Daytona race they still had problems with block cracking and had to revise the molds.
Having said that i had a 63 Dodge 220 hemi (2dr PLAIN sedan) and it is on my website I however built it myself in 1973 . The drivetrain came out of a 68 Charger that was wrecked.
The engine is still around. In fact yesterday at 6 oclock I had to go over toTrenton a fire it for its new owner who has it installed in a gas Dragster . it has a MP cam now and a Rat Roaster intake but otherwise still the same crank pistons rods etc i used over 30 years ago. Nice to hear the old girl run again.
