440 rod bearing oil holes

I am replacing the rod bearing in my new (to me) 440 and the replacement
Clevite 77 rod bearings do NOT have the small notch to feed the oil
squirt hole in the rod cap.  The guy at Summit racing says they are not
needed.  Am I safe in installing the new bearings?
