I have a 2001 Ram extended cab, Short bed 4wd with a 360 auto, tow package,
391 gears.
Tow a 6500lb 5th wheel 8-10 MPG HWY
Car trailer with car ['64 Dodge] same weight usually much more aerodynamic.
10 to 13 MPG HWY
I avoid mountain regions. But travel through the foothills around Nashville
and been through the Smokies.
Doesn't spend much time in OD in these areas but will stay above 55 without
any problems.
Added catback system and K&N air filter which improved mileage 1-2 MPG.
Replaced tranny a 65k blown front pump. Other than that it has been a great
tow vehicle.
Make sure you transfer warranty and extend it if you can.
