I had a similar problem and it was not the starter it was the torque
converter.
If you have tried 2 other startes (plus, I assume your original) and all
are doing the same thing than it may not be the starter. My flex plate
bolts came loose and after they all fell out, the starter would not turn
the car over.
Check the flex plate and also if the ring gear has fallen off the torque
converter. If your car is a standard then check the fly wheel.
Keep us posted on how you make out and what the solution was.
