Just do a leak down test.... Simple and very accurate.

After a compression test - warm engine, plugs out, carb open, squirt
about a
teaspoon of oil in each cyl tested. If compression comes up, it's
rings. If
not - valves.
Don't put much more than a teaspoon as it could give you false readings
and
get into your gauge/lines. Joe
