Hi Don.  Thanks for the email.
 
How do I go about doing this swap that you described?  Right now my engine is out of the car and I have easy access to the tranny, might be a good time to do the swapout.

Even if your trans was alltogether it would probably take ;less than 1/2 hour to do. 
After that you can bu whatever converter you wish and this minor problem is behind you forever. 
That is what i did with mine as well.
