i thought the sedans were used for the rigity or stifness that the post provided. I've seen many nonfactory race cars as hardtops. does anybody have a weighed hardtop to test the theory?

The sedan is usually about 150-200 lighter than a hardtop. The posts tie the
whole structure together and allow for less reinforcement in other parts of
the body. Also since the sedan is usually the bottom of the line model with
a bench seat, rubber floormat, and few if any options, there is weight
savings in the interior and engine bay as well. This is why most of the old
max wedge and Hemi race cars were sedans.---mike

Why would a hardtop weight 300 lbs more? Heck there is less metal, being no
post and less door frame?
