  Well, first of all, YOU don't have to use the other guy's idea of the
long runner intake. Second, they may bring a decent price, and recompense
your budget. Third is an idea that may work, I have an old Mopar
Performance cat. and looking in the big block pages, I see a pair of B-1
intake spacers. Used to raise the intake up from the block so a valley
tray can be used. If you were able to fabricate a pair of spacers to fit
your intake runner port dimensions, and make them tapered
slightly,(thicker at bottom, thinner on top) this should actually raise
the carbs up from the inner fender skirts. The carbs may lean inward
slightly, but you are already trying to make them lean upward a bunch!
