Andy,
I just went through this on the list for my 440.
The consensus was that the oil holes on the rod bearing were eliminated
at some point and not necessary.

Ken

Argh!

Just when we were ready to complete putting the bottom end back together
(we got the crank in and ready), we laid out the rod bearings and found
that 10 of the 16 bearings have the oil galleys, and the other 6 did NOT
have them! Interesting thing is that they came from 8 boxes, and all
the part numbers on the boxes are identical.

This might not be an issue for you guys, but for me this is a 2-3 day
setback since I can't get these bearings on the island, and have to see
if anyone in Anchorage has them - if not I have to mail order from the
lower-48. We were all set to get the bottom end done and "buttoned up"
- but NO!

Not sure if Clevite is to blame, or if the machine shop we bought them
from swapped 'em out - either way it's frusterating!

Thanks for letting me vent...
Andy
