I just had the same problem  on my 64 Polara 383 with factory air . the  orginal is just under 3 inches. I did get a replacememt that works and fit OK, it is new and was on the car for only 50 miles, while I waited to have mine rebuilt. If you can use it let me know. 
 It  cost me $125.00 You can have it for $100.00
