I was at a cruise in last night for a bit and a guy with a 442 convertible had a very close finish color on his to mine but his was a very fine metal flake with clear coat over it. He said it was a GM color and would get me the number if I wanted it. It was like a silvery blue and I thought would look nice with my blue interior. I'm definitely not restoring this car to sell. When I'm too old, one of the kids will get it or maybe a friend by then, I don't know. So maybe I shouldn't have used the term "restoration". Plus I'd like to install a grey carpet instead of the original blue one and the interior is mint as is. Are there any informative websites for repainting a car? I'm having mine painted as soon as the season is over here in New England (and the poly is getting done too). I'd like to "bone up" on systems and approaches so I can talk intelligently with the body shops. If I change the color, I have to have the engine compartment, trunk, door jambs, etc., all done too and undress all the trim. Bumpers I'm all set with, maybe all-trim and special T for the stainless and then some pot metal rechroming. Does "restified" fit? Personally I'm driving a restified clone. Here goes: Would you tend to stay with factory colors and finishes when restoring your car? I mean exterior paint, interior fabric, carpet, etc. I realize it's an expression of what and who to derail but given the option. Would you prefer to stay with VIN OEM schemes? What if they weren't that nice? Does it effect value that much? I'm trying to decide which road to go down.
