Thanks for all the input on the 1.5 year old stale gas in the Mopar! As
it turned out the hose coming off the tank's sending unit was cracked
and leaking, and the only way to get to the top clamp on that rubber
hose was to pull the gas tank.

So we did.

The approximately 5 gallons of stale gas was transferred to a small
portable fuel container for reuse or safe disposal. (See below.)

The good news is that inside the gas tank looked clean, no rust or
solidified fuel. Seems the fuel stabilizer that was poured in back then
helped keep the fuel from full deterioration.

P.s., on how to safely dispose the stale gasoline: I found a few things
on the Web. The simplest safe disposal is if your community has a
Household Hazardous Waste facility that accepts small quantities of
waste, like fuel.

Example search results:

Old gasoline - You can use old gasoline in your power tools, i.e., weed
eater/lawn mower/chain saw or you can put old gas into your car a little
at a time: 2 cups per tank full. [pour gas through paint
filter first]

Gas less than one year old can be safely used as fuel in your car,
lawnmower or snowblower, etc., when first strained through a paint
filter and then mixed with at least an equal amount of fresh
gasoline. For older gasoline or gas/oil mixes, look under "Oils-Waste"
in the yellow pages for a company that will take residential material.

[Or look for a Household Hazardous Waste Collection center or event in
your local community.]
