Sean, That is the needle part of the needle and seat for the carburetor and
will come in a new overhaul kit. It goes in with the point aiming in.

Sean,
Check your service manual, but I don't think that belongs in there.
What you are describing sounds either like a needle valve (for the
float) or the anti-siphon valve for the accelerator pump circuit.

There should be no FOD in the fuel line (other than maybe a very small
filter screen at the carb.

My 1964 Poly has a two barrel Carter carb.  I unscrewed the fuel line to

it, and a triangle-shaped brass shaft fell out.  It is very small, and
has a point on one end, and is flat on the other.

Which way does this thing go?
