Mike, I learned a bit about bumpers with my first 65 a couple of years ago.
I bought a set of triple played guaranteed show quality (yada yada) bumpers
from a great company in NJ.
I still have them and the chrome is almost liquid it's so nice.
Well, I tried to bolt them on and they were like something from another
model. They were close,
but not right on and bumpers do not stretch, tweak or move. If it's off a
1/8", it might as well be off an 1".
I talked to a few body folks and they said they always have the originals
done for just that reason.
Bumpers get personalized by the card they're attached to. Slight twists,
frame abnormalities, defects;
all effect the way a bumper fits a car and if you're fortunate enough to
have the originals on your car,
get them done and don't use replacements. I tried a cum-a-long, a tire
against a tree trunk, holding the car in gear;
nothing would make these fit. I was very disappointed because they cost me
500 each. I was and still plan to make
a bar out of them along with a front clip one day and make all the lights
work. It might have been my car, I don't
know but it was super straight and from the south and out of storage. I
tried a whole weekend to make them fit.
The cars in storage now along with a twin for a later project and those
beautiful bumpers are all wrapped up
in my cellar waiting for the day I make my Mopar Bar or MoBar. The platers
are on Ebay from time to time and only
do bumpers and give a lifetime guarantee. I can look them up if you want.
