Re: vacuum advance suggestions for poly?

Paul,
the distributor that you got from my Poly parts morgue is the (Chrysler built) kind you can stick the
allen wrench into. The duel point Prestolite I have and the one you have( might be
an Autolite?) both have the washer/spacers style vacuum canister. Hope that clears
things up a bit. the books I have show the Prestolite (for high performance and
police engines) and the Autolite single point has the same vacuum canister as
the Prestolite. So, yeah I guess there are 3 types of distributors. The Prestolites
have a tag attached with a serial # engraved on the tag. Not sure about the Autolite?
And the Chrysler built is what most of us have I think? I hope one of the more
knowledgeable members of our group can shine some more light on this maybe?
before I confuse everybody. &o:

Yes, Schuyler. Someone else suggested this earlier (or was that you?), but
mine has no allen screw inside. It has a spring and some washer/spacers inside.
It looks exactly like the vac advance you have on that dual point distributor.
Are you saying yours' has no spring and washer/spacers inside to adjust it?
I would like to know if there is a third type out there that I need to
identify: got a part number for the type using the allen wrench?
Thanks.

Paul, You should be able to insert a 3/32" allen wrench into the
internal vacuum canister adjustment
screw? Turn the allen screw (clockwise to decrease, counterclockwise to
increase) the amount of advance.
Although I think this adj. only gives you more or less advance , to
adjust when the advance comes in is
a mechanical adj. with the weights and springs inside the distributor.
Hope this helps maybe someone can
esplain it better. I think the original type of vacuum canister your
referring to was on the Autolite or Prestolite distributors?
