I suppose standards have changed a lot, carbs are less reliable than fuel injection, but they aren't *unreliable*. millions of motorists drove carburatored vehicles for many years before the 1980s. I drive a 170cid slant six with a BBD 1bbl everyday and have done so for the six years I've owned the car. I've never opened it and I don't know if its ever been rebuilt at all. I've had a lot of comments that upgrading to electronic ignition will make the car more reliable, but the points ignition have not once proven unreliable. If you make it a complicated project, it'll get expensive and never get off the ground, you'll end up at Carmax or something... stick to basics, and buy something you can start driving immediately. If you gotta have A/C & discs, look for something from the 1970s. A Volare Wagon with a 225 or a 318 and cop wheels might be what you are looking for....
